Vendia MCP Server
Vendia MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server is a powerful integration tool that bridges the gap between Large Language Models (LLMs) and your distributed data stored in Vendia. It provides a secure, managed service for handling MCP requests with built-in authentication and OAuth2 support.
Large Language Models are revolutionizing how we interact with data, but their true potential is often gated by the inability to securely and efficiently access real-time, high-fidelity enterprise data. Traditional data integration methods for AI are costly, complex, and lead to stale data, inhibiting real-time insights and trusted AI outputs.
By implementing the Model Context Protocol (MCP) - an open standard that provides a universal, secure framework for LLMs to access, query, and act upon external data sources and tools – it enables AI applications to securely access, query, and analyze data across your multi-party data sharing networks in real-time. The Vendia MCP Server leverages Vendia’s cross-warehouse/lakehouse analytical data sharing capability, seamlessly connecting on-premises and cloud data warehouses/lakehouses while reducing storage costs and simplifying data integrations across cloud, on-premises, GenAI, and BI tools.
Simply put, it enables AI applications to access your carefully curated Vendia data for high-fidelity insights while maintaining complete data sovereignty and adhering to your organization’s security and compliance requirements. Vendia’s foundational distributed ledger technology ensures that your data is always consistent, tamper-proof, and real-time across your multi-party networks, providing the perfect backbone for trusted AI interactions via MCP.
Key Features
Seamless LLM Integration
- Model Context Protocol Support: Native implementation of MCP for standardized AI tool integration, ensuring broad compatibility & future-proofing your AI integrations
- Real-time Data Access: Direct connection to live data in Vendia without data replication, empowering LLMs with the most current information and eliminating the latency common with traditional ETL processes
- Multiple LLM Compatibility: Works with Claude, OpenAI and other popular LLM platforms that support MCP
- GraphQL-Powered: Leverages Vendia’s native GraphQL APIs for efficient data retrieval, allowing LLMs to precisely request only the data they need, optimizing query efficiency for AI operations
Authentication & Security
- Standards-Based Authorization: Fully supports the MCP authorization specification for interoperable, secure access control and seamless integration with AI tools
- OAuth2 Integration: Full OAuth2 support for secure authentication flows
- Secure MCP Operations: All MCP protocol operations run through authenticated, encrypted endpoints
- Multi-Format Support: Access both operational (GraphQL) and analytical (SQL/Iceberg) data interfaces
Available Tools
The Vendia MCP Server provides a comprehensive set of tools for accessing your Vendia data:
Operational Data Access via GraphQL
/get-graphql-types
: Get the list of available GraphQL types with associated operations/explore-graphql
: Get detailed schema information and metadata for specific types to build queries/mutations/query-graphql
: Execute GraphQL queries against Vendia’s distributed ledger
Analytical Data Access via SQL
/get-table-info
: Discover Vendia Iceberg tables with complete schema information/query-iceberg-table
: Execute SQL queries against Iceberg tables (read-only)
Files Access
/list-folders
: List all folders in the Vendia system/list-files
: List all available files with IDs, paths, owners, and timestamps- Direct File Access: Some MCP clients can read individual files via
vendia://files/{fileId}
file URIs. For clients that are still adding full support for resource templates (eg, Claude), a/read-file
tool is also provided (supports text/image files only)
Files can be accessed directly through the MCP resource system or via temporary URLs for large files, providing both programmatic access and direct download capabilities.
How It Works
The Vendia MCP Server creates a seamless bridge between AI applications and your distributed Vendia data through a four-layer architecture:
Data Layer: Your data lives in Vendia Unis - distributed networks maintaining consistency across organizations and clouds. This ensures data integrity and real-time synchronization, providing a single source of truth for your AI.
Service Layer: A managed service handles MCP protocol operations and OAuth authentication. This fully managed service removes infrastructure complexities, handling scalable request processing.
Protocol Layer: Standard Model Context Protocol enables AI applications to discover and interact with your data using familiar patterns. The open MCP standard allows AI applications to seamlessly discover and interact with your Vendia data using familiar, standardized patterns, reducing integration effort.
Access Layer: AI applications gain real-time access to GraphQL operations, SQL analytics, and file resources while respecting your existing security policies.
Architecture Benefits
No Data Duplication
Unlike traditional approaches that require copying data to AI platforms, Vendia MCP Server provides direct access to your source data, eliminating sync delays and reducing storage costs.
Preserved Data Sovereignty
Your data remains in your controlled Vendia nodes while still being accessible to authorized AI applications, maintaining governance and compliance requirements.
Future-Proof Integration
Built on open standards (Model Context Protocol), ensuring compatibility with emerging AI tools and platforms without vendor lock-in.
